Celebrating The Little Things Tag

It gets quite sad having to begin each tag post with an apology, you know…

Hullo wonderful folks of Planet Earth (and elsewhere),

It really is unfair that I happen to be such a lazy (sometimes inhumanly busy) individual because it does this wonderful human no justice at all, really. You know, Ava over at Reads, Rhythms and Ruminations, is this talented, creative, funny and- well, if I go on, we’ll be here the whole day; but I’d suggest you check out her blog and you’d know right away where I’m coming from. But my point is, Ava, the epic blogger, tagged me to this awesome tag where one gets to look back and appreciate the little things. And since I do that quite often in my mind, I find it a great chance that I’ve gotten tagged to officially write it all here on my blog. So thank you, Ava!

And now onto the questions~

1. Who was your very first follower (if you can find out)? Tag them and give them a shout out!

Well I remember that she was the very first comment that I ever got, the very first that had made my eyes the size of saucers and placed a giddy smile on my face, and, if my memory serves me right, she was also the first follower. I’m speaking of ThegirlwhofearoblivionSadly, she hasn’t posted anything since a long while now but the posts she already had up were very relatable!

3 Days, 3 Quotes: Day 3

Yay me for sticking to schedule (for once)!

Hullo wonderful folks! How’re you all today?

So today brings about the end of the quotes tag (sadly); and as it is Day 3, you may want to check out my previous choices and nominees for Days 1 and 2, maybe you’ll like them as much as I did!

So today’s quote is..umm.. what can I say.. It’s extra special. Both because it holds a very relatable meaning, and because this comes from the very book that got me into reading.

So.. where are my drummers?

I know it’s just a good ol’ John Green and that most (or all?) of the hype about his books is gone but I just can’t not respect that man and his books; they’re just so precious~ And yes, it was that fateful year, back in 2014, when that book came out, that I decided to give this ‘reading‘ activity a go. And what do you know? 2 years later, here I am, sitting aside with my nose buried in a book, thinking about books and–you guessed it– ranting about books.

So thank you John Green for making me realise that there was a world out there filled with endless possibilities– a world where I could lose myself to, and yet find more about who I am nonetheless.

And besides, this quote is rather fitting for the last day of a quote-tag, don’t you think?

So yeah– now onto our last three nominees!

  1. Azura Skye
  2. BookslayerReads
  3. Clockwork Bibliophile

And that’s the end of it! Have you read The Fault In Our Stars? Any of John Green’s books? What quotes do you like from his books? Whatever it is, I’d love to hear your thoughts!

Loads of love,

Midnight Ranter (aka Ayaka)

3 Days, 3 Quotes: Day 2

I’m starting to think that I may have commitment issues…. or maybe I’m just irresponsible..

I know, I know. This quote should’ve been here yesterday but.. I had this infernal paper to write and got caught up in it. My apologies, dear readers.

Speaking of Infernal; today’s quote is from one of my all-time favourite trilogies. Any guesses?

(Oh yes, if you want Day 1’s quote, it’s right here)

Another drumroll before the grand reveal, please:

FullSizeRender 4.jpg

This is especially true in my case because were it not for books, I would’ve been a completely different person compared to who I am today. So thank you books for making me choose to live a thousand lives instead of just one!

And the nominees for the day are:

  1. bookishthingsandtea
  2. rantandraveaboutbooks
  3. jessreadsbooks

Have you read The Infernal Devices trilogy yet? Can you relate to today’s quote as much as I do? Let me know below!

Midnight Ranter (aka Ayaka)

3 Days, 3 Quotes– Book Tag

How’s everyone? Enjoying the last bits of November? I surely hope so!

So I was tagged by my very lovely friend Dez from @Dez| The Fun In Reading Books. I’m telling you, ladies and gentlemen, this human has one of the best blogs and personalities I’ve had the pleasure of coming across; so do yourself a favour and check her blog out!

So what’s the tag? The rules go as follows:

1. Thank the person who nominated you
2. Post a quote for 3 consecutive days (1 quote for each day)
3. Nominate three new bloggers each day

So today’s quote is *drumroll* ….

FullSizeRender 2.jpg

I don’t know if I’ve ever mentioned these two facts but:

a. I take such a pleasure in reading quotes; and I love quotes so much that writing one from my ‘favourites’ list everyday may last a decade and more– it’s that bad, yes.

b. SHERLOCK HOLMES! Oh goodness… if I could just begin to describe my admiration to that classical book series, we’d never see the end of it. And I don’t love it so much just because Benedict Cumberbatch made an epic TV series of it. No sir, it goes way beyond that too.

And that sadly concludes the fangirl session on quotes and being a major Sherlockian. I have a passion for the truth and unmasking lies, so this quote takes the top of my list.

Oh yes, the nominees!

I tag:

  1. TrainOfThoughts
  2. Birdie BookWorm
  3. ForensicMom

I wish I could tag everyone all at once, but I guess that’ll have to wait until tomorrow’s post.

Know the quote, though? A fellow Sherlockian yourself? Let me know!

Loads of love,

Midnight Ranter (aka Ayaka)

PS. I changed up the blog’s theme– I felt like I needed something more to the immaculate side. What do you think of the new one?

2016 Blogger Awards!

I don’t even know why I’m nervous..

Hullo my most beloved readers!

How’ve you all been? Excited for November? I am, it’s one of my favourite months (and not only because my birthday is in it).

Anyhow.. there’s this matter called the 2016 blogger awards and it’s upon us! I wasn’t entirely sure I wanted to nominate anyone since the bloggers I actually interact with could be counted on one hand; but I’ll do my best anyway.

So the ‘host’ (can we call her that? I’m calling her that) is Elm from JustElm and she says:

There are 12 categories in which to nominate blog, or bloggers. They are listed below, with a description to help you to decide which blogs fit the award best. You can nominate anybody, and the blogger with the most nominations for that category will win the award. However, all nominees will be recognised.

The complete set of rule are up on the post as well, so spare it a glance, will you?

As I said, I didn’t have many nominees as I’m still new round here, and I wanted to do justice to the great few people I DO know, so I’ll just nominate them here.

Blog of the year:

Train of Thoughts. She’s worked so hard, and in the little time I’ve been around, she’s literally built a wonderful world of her own, which is truly inspiring– https://mybookylife.wordpress.com

Most Relatable Blog:

Azura Skye. Her posts always makes me shout ‘YAAAS!’ And her writing style reflects who she is, which reaches out to me right away– https://azuraskies.wordpress.com

Funniest Blogger:

Crumble Cult by Tony Single. There isn’t post or a reply to a comment that doesn’t make me smile, grin or straight away laugh out loud– https://crumblecult.com

The Wildcard:

Dez from the fun in reading books. She’s stunning, approachable, friendly, kind, with epic reviews and a wonderful blog. I don’t know which category does her justice, really– https://thefuninreadingbooks.wordpress.com

Finally, the Most Approachable Blogger:

I nominate Elm. Because honestly, I’ve been round here for like 3 minutes and I can already see her awesomeness emitting through my screen!

Any of you going to nominate? It’s actually great fun!

Lots of love,

Midnight Ranter (aka Ayaka)

This or That Book Tag

*fake cough*

Howdy everyone!

So if you’ve been around for a while now, I’m hoping that you already know how very irresponsible I get with tags even though I get so honoured when I do get tagged.

It’s an issue– I’m working on it.

Pausing the blabber now, I’d like to thank the wonderful, most gracious and awesome blogger from Train of Thoughts  for tagging me, and I apologise (greatly) for taking so long to do it. But hear this, ladies and gentlemen: that girl’s blog is just one of the most fantastic ones I’ve ever come across. It’s so organised, pretty and professional– I truly look up to her for it. So do check it out; it’s epic.

Also, the tag was originally created by Ayunda @Tea and Paperbacks.

Now onto the rules of the tag:

  1. Mention the creator of the tag;
  2. Thank the blogger who tagged you;
  3. Choose one of the options, you don’t have to tell the reasons why you chose that but you can also do them if you want to;
  4. Tag 10 other people to do this tag to spread the love!

Two of these are done. The questions?

  1. Reading on the couch or on the bed?

Uhhh.. That’s a tough one. I’d read anywhere as long as my book’s in my hand.. but I guess I read more on bed since it’s where I get my free time (don’t tell my mum– I’m normally supposed to be asleep).

2. Male main character or female main character?

As a wise man once said, (aka my father) gender doesn’t really matter. Males have certain ways to view things and so do females; and it’s refreshing seeing either on my pages.

3. Sweet snacks or salty snacks when reading?

See, I’m a weird person (surprise, surprise). Where people normally eat sweets to stop getting dizzy, I eat them and get dizzy. It’s weird, I know. Therefore, I’d go with salty– even though I normally don’t eat while reading to prevent getting any crumbs on my book.

4. Trilogies or quartets?

Quartets since I like stories lasting for a while.

5. First person point of view or third person point of view?

I read more third than first (I like the first POVs though). Also, I write in third. I like it because it’s a greater scope on things and normally more descriptive.

6. Reading at night or in the morning?

Whenever I’m free, basically. Which is mostly at night.

7. Libraries or bookstores?

Remember the bit where I said I was weird? Amplify that, please.

You see, I get too attached to books. So attached that I actually don’t like giving them away once I have them. Therefore, I don’t borrow books– nor from friends, family or libraries. So bookstores it is.

8. Books that make you laugh or make you cry?

I don’t normally laugh out loud with books; I just smile, grin or just chuckle. But books making me cry? Hell, there’s a whole list of that. So I go for crying because that’s one of the prominent evidences that books do make you feel something.

9. Black book covers or white book covers?

That’s one weird question. Twilight has both a black and a white edition– did the content change? Uh, no. As long as the book’s worth it, I’m in– all colourful spectrums aside.

10. Character driven or plot driven stories?

Er.. both? I mean, a story is made of both plot and character.. so I guess it’d be incomplete if one dominates the other. *shrugs* Don’t take my word for it, though.

I’ll nominate five and the rest? If you’re reading this, have a blog and want to do it, just comment below and I’ll love to check it out!

  1. Birdie Bookworm
  2. Bookslayer Reads
  3. The Fun in Reading Books
  4. Clockwork Bibliophile
  5. Maniac With Books

I’m going to have to search for more book-lovers out there in the near future; but until then, I hope you all enjoyed my bookish rant and have a great day ahead of you 🙂

The Versatile Blogger Award

Heya wonderful folks!

Seven hundred and seven years ago, I was nominated by the astounding, most gracious and epic lady, Dezel, from dez | the fun in reading books for The Versatile Blogger Award. Thank you so blooming much, mate; and I apologise for my late post on it. I realised that doing such posts eons after being nominated could be a tad bit rude (okay, maybe too rude) so I am really sorry about that.

And, just saying, her blog is simply beautiful and her posts and book reviews take the top of my favourites’ list, so check it out to grace your eyes and mind a bit 🙂

The rules of said award are:

-Thank your nominator;
-Share the award on your blog;
-State 7 things about yourself;
-Choose 7 new nominees who have fewer than 300 followers;
-Notify them via social media.

Now onto the 7 deadly facts about yours truly:

  1. I am quite the bibliophilic, as you may have already noticed. I love purchasing books, stacking them on my wooden shelf, and looking at them when I feel down. Obviously, I read said books but.. I just love looking at them (and smelling them, okay? I’m weird. Fine.), it’s calming.
  2. I’m the eldest of four girls. And being the eldest somehow made me automatically sound older than my age and, in a way, quite mature for my age. That’s one thing that I think I liked from being the responsible one.
  3. I’m quite the romantic chum. Romance–not the cheesy one– gets to me. I like reading stories with romance in them and not romance with a story to it. Like YA romance, they’re too adorable. You get my point?
  4. I speak 3 languages– Japanese, English and Arabic. Not fluent in all three but I do my best.
  5. I wished to become a forensic scientist, or a psychologist; but my father is trying to persuade me in looking into Aesthetic Medicine.
  6. I like deep talks. Most people I know shy away from deep talks or just avoid them altogether but I just love them. I love hearing your views on things and matters and seeing where we’re alike and different. It’s a part of being human and I love it.
  7. Last but not least, I love this community. I love all the comments I get on the blog and all the thoughts and compliments. All the people and virtual mates. They get me going when no sugar or caffeine can possibly drive me; and I’m eternally thankful for that.

And onto the nomination of the wonderful bloggers:

  1. TheNightOwl
  2. Azura Skye
  3. TrainOfThought
  4. Shraddhatandelwritings
  5. My Mind Speaks Aloud
  6. Ivy Iris
  7. You! I nominate you, epic reader and blogger. Just let me know when you decide to do the award and I’d love to read facts about yourself!

Hope you enjoyed my post and you ought to visit these lovely people mentioned up there, they deserve all success.

Liebster Awards

Hello again!

So following my virtual coma on the blog, something very peculiar happened; very peculiar indeed. I was nominated for the Liebster Awards! Can anyone imagine that? Little ranter me was nominated and I can’t even begin to express my gratitude for that. So the one behind this miracle was MyBookyLife and honestly, that blog deserves a look upon. It’s stylish, colourful and brimmed up with a bunch of helpful and fun information! (and here’s a plus, the blogger is awesome as a person too).

Basically, from what I know, this award is to spread awareness and recognition for those bloggers out there who deserve more followers than they have and to make them better known around the WordPress community. And the rules to the awards are as follows:

  1. Acknowledge the person who nominated you and display the award.
  2. Answer eleven questions that the blogger gives you.
  3. Give eleven random facts about yourself.
  4. Nominate 11 blogs who you think deserve it
  5. Let the bloggers know you’ve nominated them.
  6. Give your eleven question to the nominees.

Step one: Check.

Now onto step two, which is answering questions.

  1. What makes you smile?

In all honesty, being nominated made me smile. I tend to smile a lot easily considering the fact that I have a very expressive face. But generally, any act of kindness is guaranteed to bring about that goofy grin of mine.

2. Why did you start blogging?

I started it because, sadly, there aren’t many ways one could speak with out there. You see, I love speaking and talking; expressing thoughts and sharing them. The only place I thought one could find people who love that too is a blogger community. Also, people here are so open-minded and it’s very refreshing! It’s like the blogger community is a whole other world altogether. A world where you always belong.

3. If you had any superpower what would it be?

Hmmm… Probably any power that’s mentally and not physically controlled. Anything that falls under that would totally interest me.

4. Favourite Tv show?

I’m not much of a Tv show person but probably something action-packed. Like The Vampire Diaries (excluding that last season).

5. Favourite book?

That’s like asking a mother to pick her favourite child! Mothers don’t do that! But I think The Wrath and The Dawn does it. Or The Book Thief. Or– yeah, I’ll stop there.

6. Hobby?

Reading and Writing.

7. Last thing you ate?

Oranges, I think.

8. Pet Peeves?

I actually had to look that one up; didn’t know whether I had any. But then turns out, being a Grammar Nazi, I do. When people use “your” instead of “you’re” when they know the difference but are just too lazy to add that ‘e’. That kills me a bit every time.

9. One word to describe you?

Ambitious. (There are, like, 700 more words used to describe me, but I’m settling for that one).

10.  If you could change your appearance, what would you change?

I’m quite satisfied with what I have. But I’d probably change up my eye colour.

11. Do you think yourself a good person? Why or Why not?

The quality of goodness, in my opinion, isn’t quite quantitative. A person could me mean and horrible yet good at the same time. And another could be peaceful, calm and cool but bad. If by ‘good’ you mean ‘kind’, then maybe I am; because people always tell me that I’m ‘too kind to a fault’ or ‘too good to a fault’. Which I don’t think is possible, considering that it’s not my fault that people decide to exploit my kindness and twist it into my weakness.

Now random facts about yours truly:

  1. I’m a very random person.
  2. Honestly, I have one too many sides to my personality. One word can’t describe me.
  3. Most of my sides are weirdly contradicting. Yet I’m me still.
  4. I have a very philosophical speech.
  5. People make fun of that speech (is that a surpise?)
  6. Nicknames: Bookworm, Encyclopedia, Nerd.
  7. I love all of my nicknames.
  8. I’m a major reader (surprise, surprise). I’m the type that could sit for hours on, talking to no-one and doing nothing but reading the book she has at hand.
  9. I love cats.
  10. Judgement kind of irks me.
  11. I like talking and voicing my views, but I also make a very good listener.

The people I nominate in an order as random as myself (and, just saying, I’m still a newbie so the list is a bit short):

  3. Brontë’s Page Turners
  4. Finding Ikigai
  5. Coffee and Cats
  6. MyBookyLife

I know that that’s too short; but all the bloggers I know are successful beings. Not my fault *hands up*

Now, finally, my questions:

  1. What makes you, you?
  2. What’s the one thought that rings so loudly in your mind that it’s a bit scary?
  3. Favourite colour?
  4. What do you think of the quote, ‘Actions speak louder than words’?
  5. If you could fly anywhere you want, what country would you visit?
  6. Favourite movie?
  7. I won’t tell you to narrow it down to one book, but, favourite series?
  8. From the most recent thing you’ve read/watched, who’s your favourite character and why?
  9. Favourite singer/band?
  10. Last song you’ve listened to?
  11. What five words would you choose that best describe you?

And with that said, thank you for reading this majorly lengthy post!

-Midnight Ranter.
